Valley Health System Opens New Outpatient Surgery Center in Paramus

Valley Health System opened a new outpatient surgery center in Paramus this month, expanding same-day surgical capacity for Bergen County patients undergoing procedures that no longer require an overnight hospital stay.

The freestanding center includes six operating rooms dedicated to same-day procedures such as cataract surgery, endoscopy, and select orthopedic and gynecological surgeries. Hospital officials say shifting these procedures out of the main hospital campus frees up inpatient operating room capacity for more complex cases while also offering patients a faster, less institutional surgical experience.

"A same-day cataract surgery patient doesn't need the same environment as someone recovering from major abdominal surgery," said Valley Health System Chief Operating Officer Denise Falcone. "This center lets us give routine procedures a faster, more efficient path while keeping our main hospital focused on higher-acuity care."

The $55 million facility is located near several senior living communities in Paramus, a placement Valley Health says was intentional given that cataract and joint procedures skew toward an older patient population that benefits from reduced travel distance. The center is expected to perform roughly 12,000 procedures annually once fully operational.

Valley Health System says it is evaluating a second outpatient surgery center for Rockland County residents who make up a meaningful share of its existing patient base just across the New York state line.
