Montclair Yoga Studios Report Growth in Sound Bath and Meditation Classes
Montclair yoga studios are reporting rapid growth in sound bath and guided meditation classes, often outpacing enrollment in traditional yoga sessions.

Yoga studios across Montclair are reporting rapid growth in sound bath and guided meditation class enrollment, in several cases outpacing signups for the traditional yoga sessions that have long been these studios' primary offering.
Sound bath sessions, which use singing bowls and other resonant instruments to guide participants through deep relaxation, have become a scheduling priority for several studios that previously offered the format only occasionally. Studio owners say demand has grown enough to justify adding multiple weekly sound bath sessions, some of which now sell out further in advance than comparable yoga classes.
"We added one sound bath class a few years ago almost as an experiment, and it sold out immediately," said one Montclair studio owner. "Now we run four a week and they still fill up faster than most of our yoga classes, which honestly surprised all of us."
Studio owners attribute the growth partly to clients seeking lower-impact relaxation options compared to physically demanding yoga styles, and partly to social media exposure that has introduced sound bath meditation to a broader audience than traditional word-of-mouth marketing typically reaches. Several studios have begun training additional instructors specifically in sound bath facilitation to meet demand.
Local wellness industry observers say the trend mirrors broader growth in passive, relaxation-focused wellness offerings nationally, as time-constrained clients seek stress relief that requires less physical exertion than a traditional workout class.
